Long-eared Owl (Asio otus), a mysterious and beautifully camouflaged nocturnal raptor. The "ears" in their name are not ears at all, but feather tufts that stick up from their heads. These tufts are used for camouflage and communication, not hearing. Their real ears are asymmetrically placed on their head, allowing them to pinpoint prey by sound alone, even under snow or grass.
