Bob Dylan once said he couldn’t think of a single Gordon Lightfoot song he didn’t like. “Every time I hear a song of his,” Dylan said, “it’s like I wish it would last forever.” Lightfoot died on May 1st, 2023, at 84, of natural causes, in a Toronto hospital. He was Canadian, and Dylan called him a mentor. He wrote “If You Could Read My Mind” sitting alone in a vacant Toronto house after his divorce.
