Last Lifts of the Lift Bridge: The iconic 1914 Fairport Lift Bridge, spanning the Erie Canal, closes tomorrow at 7:00am and will remain closed for more than a year as a major rehabilitation commences. Today marked the final day of lifts for boating traffic, the bridge will remain in the “Up” position during the project—boat traffic will be unaffected. The bridge crosses the canal at a 32 degree angle with the south end higher than the north, no bridge like it in the world.
