Remembering: Ken Johnson - Winster Morris Dancers
It is with great sadness and not a little shock that we report the sudden death of Ken Johnson, Morris dancer, folk singer and (pictured here as) 'Queen' of Winster Morris. He had been a member of Winster Morris Dancers for many years and was also a founder member of Chesterfield Morris Men.

About Us - Winster Morris Dancers
We welcome both men and women and dance as a mixed team. We dance with four 'characters': a King and Queen, a Witch and a Jester. Here are John our King and Frank the Witch. We secured Lottery funding in 2008 for our heritage project celebrating the centenary of Sharp's visit to the village in 1908.

Winster Website - Winster: A brief history
The name 'Winster' is first recorded in Domesday Book (1086) as Winsterne, which possibly means 'Wyn's thorn tree', presumably after a local landmark. The village is located in a broad valley where the steep limestone bank to the south meets the shales and gritstones to the north.
