Founded in 2011, Jalen Rose Leadership Academy is a tuition-free, open enrollment, high school serving 410 scholars in Northwest Detroit.

Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) is an open enrollment, tuition-free public charter high school on the northwest side of Detroit. The Academy began its first academic year in September 2011 and currently serves over 400 ninth through twelfth grade scholars as well as nearly 1,000 alumni from metro Detroit.

Active in civic and community organizations, Michael co-founded the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in Detroit and serves on several boards, including the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission and the University of Detroit Mercy Board of Trustees.

Mar 23, 2022 · Jalen Rose tackles Detroit’s education gap by opening Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, a charter school for some of the city’s most at-risk kids. The former NBA star and ESPN/ABC sports analyst, continues to live in his hometown of Detroit and now gives back to the community that raised him.

At JRLA, scholars are provided with a rigorous academic experience and engaging extracurricular activities, which build both the skill and will necessary to be successful in high school and beyond.
