Back then there were clear differences between a shooting guard and a small forward rather than just looking at it like a couple wings. The Lakers thought Kobe's growth as a player made Eddie Jones redundant, so they traded him for an All Star SF in Rice.

IMHO, Issues that Eddie Jones-coached teams seem to have: indiscipline inability to think for themselves fear, caused by his seemingly random selection of young players who he is prepared to cast out into the wilderness on a whim Overall he is like the Jose Mourinho of rugby. He's had his glory days, but now he's finished.
