Montgomery cooled off from his incredible run, but he had another big night Friday against the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins nearly blew a four-run lead in the eighth inning. Lefty reliever Génesis Cabrera recorded only one out, giving up a hit and two walks. Justin Topa surrendered a bases-loaded walk and two RBI singles to his first three batters before inducing a foul ball against Colson Montgomery.
Royce Lewis went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and Byron Buxton, Luke Keaschall and Edouard Julien each had two hits and an RBI to lift the visiting Minnesota Twins to a 9-7 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
And one pitch later, Royce Lewis drove Civale’s cutter 386 feet for a grand slam to give the Twins a 4-1 lead. One pitch brought home every run the Twins scored off Civale, who finished with five innings, five hits, four earned runs, four walks and five strikeouts.
Twins’ right-hander Mick Abel, acquired in the Jhoan Duran trade, will likely make his debut vs. the White Sox on Saturday.
Owen Caissie’s bat powered his rise in the Chicago Cubs system, but the work he put in to become a more complete all-around player shouldn’t be overlooked.
Lewis hit his sixth career grand slam to lead the Twins past the White Sox in a battle between teams who came in with the AL's worst records.
It started with a blown lead last August, and 365 days later the Twins have gone 70-93, worse than every AL team besides the White Sox.
