In order to host a playoff game the Vols would need to be seeded (not ranked) in the top eight of the CFP after championship weekend’s conclusion.

With the regular season now concluded, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee put Tennessee at No. 7 in their penultimate set of rankings.

Ohio State is in position to host Tennessee in the first round of the College Football Playoff later this month. That’s because the Buckeyes were ahead of the Volunteers in the selection committee’s penultimate rankings released Tuesday night.
