The Supreme Court cleared President Donald Trump to cut $783 million in NIH diversity-linked research grants in a 5–4 ruling that overturned lower court blocks.

A federal judge had ruled that the more than $1 billion in cuts to research grants, like studies into HIV prevention, violated federal law.

In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court removed a lower-court block on $783 million in National Institutes of Health research grants
