Sony Pictures claims CBS entered into unauthorized licensing deals for the shows which undercut their value then paid themselves commission on them.

Sony Pictures Television Inc. accused CBS Studios Inc. in a lawsuit of leaving millions of dollars on the table in the network’s distribution of the popular Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune game shows.

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! have aired in syndication and not on one specific network for over 40 years. Sony’s distribution agreements with CBS and the network’s previous distributor go back to the early 1980s. Under their deal, CBS licenses the shows to local stations and sells ad spots in exchange for around one-third of profits.

Two former executives on Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune have accused Sony Pictures of engaging in unlawful race, gender, and age discrimination.

Sony has filed a lawsuit with the Los Angeles Superior Court accusing CBS of failing to maximize revenues in its syndication of iconic TV game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune

The production studio accused CBS of undercutting the two game shows in favor of other shows that CBS produces itself.

Sony (NYSE:SONY) has filed a lawsuit against CBS (NASDAQ:PARA) for a breach of contract, accusing the network of licensing the popular American TV game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune at below-market rates and alleged that it failed to maximize advertising revenue through their distribution.
