Myanmar’s junta released details of its long-awaited December elections on Thursday, saying the first voting phase would cover about a third of the nation’s townships — despite the conflict raging around the Southeast Asian country.

Myanmar’s military government says national elections will begin on 28 December 2025, despite a civil war, Aung San Suu Kyi’s continued imprisonment, opposition boycotts and UN warnings the vote is a “fraud”.
