India Today on MSNUS Open: Cheerful Jannik Sinner returns to practice after Cincinnati heartbreak
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner returned to practice at Arthur Ashe, easing fans' concerns after his Cincinnati withdrawal and signaling readiness to defend his crown at Flushing Meadows.
Sinner is currently the World No. 1 with a record of 31-4 with two titles (Australian Open and Wimbledon). Last year, Sinner won the 2024 US Open, marking his first-ever title in New York City.
Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the U.S. Open mixed doubles, which begins Aug. 19 in New York. The men’s world No. 1 in singles retired after five games of his Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz due to illness, and will recover before preparing for the U.S. Open singles.
Jannik's top rival will be Alcaraz once again, with the 22-year-old Spaniard expected to make a difficult debut against American giant Reilly Opelka. Behind them are Serbian veteran Novak Djokovic – who is chasing the 25th Major title of his endless career – Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Jack Draper and Taylor Fritz (finalist here last year).
