Hurricane Helene’s rampage killed more than 200 people, with the death toll still rising, making it the second-deadliest hurricane to strike the U.S. mainland in the last 50 years. The National Weather Service and other weather experts have recently released final data on how strong, fast and destructive the storm was.

With the total steadily increasing, estimated insured losses in Florida from Hurricane Helene topped $900 million on Friday.

Hundreds of animals evacuated from Hurricane Helene-ravaged areas and relocated to animal shelters in other states now up for adoption

Virginia animal shelters are helping rescue cats and dogs from flooded areas in western North Carolina. The big picture: Earlier this week, the Richmond SPCA served as a hub for 140 animals — 50 dogs and 90 cats — evacuated from Yancey County Humane Society and other towns reeling from Hurricane Helene.

Hurricane Helene devastated the southern United States, killing over 200 people, swallowing towns and displacing thousands of people. And in the wake of all the destruction, pets have been left without homes too.
