Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies unveiled its Mate 70 smartphone series on Tuesday, bolstering its premium smartphone comeback while showcasing its own operating system that looks to cleanly break away from U.

The Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro Plus, and Mate 70 RS will also be offered with Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.3, which first launched in August 2019 as an alternative to Google’s Android OS and is still compatible with Android’s extensive app library.

The US trade ban has prevented Huawei from competing with other smartphone vendors in 5G mobile chip performance, but the Chinese tech giant is still staying in the smartphone sector, committing resources to the development of operating systems and chips.
