A 20-year-old western Minnesota man who admitted to choking and sexually assaulting his girlfriend in her St. Catherine University dorm room was given a 7½-year prison term Monday.

On Dec. 4, 2021, a 1-year-old girl died after suffering a gunshot wound at the family home in Granite Falls, Snohomish County deputies said.

Keanu Avery Labatte, 20, was sentenced to 90 months (7.5 years) in jail after pleading guilty to one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Labatte must also stay away from the victim, who has a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order against him,
