A tie at the Minnesota Senate has come to an end as the DFL's Doron Clark is projected to win the special election for District 60 with 90.9% of the vote.

Democrat Doron Clark has won the special election in Minnesota Senate District 60, confirming majority control for the DFL in the Senate. A special election was held in the district – which covers northeast and parts of southeast Minneapolis –following the death of Sen. Kari Dziedzic of cancer last month.

The race’s outcome determines the balance of power in the Senate, which was tied at 33 apiece for the GOP and DFL, but will now lean in the Democrat’s favor. District 60 encompasses all of northeast and southeast Minneapolis and the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood on the opposite side of the Mississippi River.

HENNEPIN COUNTY, Minn. (KIMT) - The Minnesota Senate will be controlled by the DFL after a special election night win in District 60. Doron Clark has defeated Republican candidate Abigail Wolters, winning over 91% of the vote. The special election was held after the death of late DFL Sen. Kari Dziedzic last month from cancer.

After two weeks of successful power-sharing, the Senate will revert to a majority after Tuesday’s special election
