Former Columbus, Ohio, police officer Adam Coy was found guilty of murder on Monday in the shooting death of Andre Hill, an unarmed Black man. Coy, who was removed from his position in the Columbus Police Department shortly after the incident, faced charges of murder, reckless homicide and other offenses in which he was found guilty on Monday.

During the trial, Coy testified he fired four times after he spotted what he thought was a silver revolver as Hill was emerging from the garage.

Hill, 47, was leaving the garage of a residence following an order from officer Adam Coy, who was responding to the area on a report of a vehicle switching on and off, NBC 4i and The Columbus Dispatch reported at the time. Hill had been an invited guest at the residence.
