A snowfall map from NWS shows that most of the U.P. is expected to see 18-30 inches of snow. Snow accumulations increase from west to east with the Keweenaw Peninsula forecasted on the low end of 8-12 inches and parts of Mackinac and Chippewa counties expected to see more than three feet of snow.
Weather officials forecast a possible record-breaking winter storm for northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula this weekend, March 14-15.
The alerts come as much of the U.S. is experiencing abnormally warm temperatures more reminiscent of late spring or early summer.
