A pensioner was refused a payout for Storm Darragh's damage to his home after his insurers said the winds were "2mph too slow". Dennis Iliffe, 77, was left stunned when his insurance company told him they could not settle his claim because wind speeds in his home town did not hit 55mph.

People are continuing to count the cost of Storm Darragh - but one man was told by his insurers it was not actually a storm at all. Dennis Iliffe was initially refused a pay-out because wind speeds in his home town of Kidderminster only hit 53 mph.

A Kidderminster resident has been left "absolutely astounded" after his insurance company refused to pay for storm damage because wind speeds were 2mph too slow to qualify as an official storm.
