Musk had become more entrenched in Texas politics after the movement of both Tesla and SpaceX headquarters from California to the state.

The Texas Newsroom, which is investigating Musk’s influence over the Texas government, asked the governor’s office in April to share emails with the billionaire dating back to last fall. Though the governor’s office accepted a fee of $244 to gather the records, The Texas Newsroom reports that it later refused to follow through on the request

Musk had an eventful legislative session in Texas this year. In addition to his lobbyists successfully advocating for several new laws, Abbott cited the Tesla and SpaceX CEO as the inspiration for the state creating its own efficiency office and has praised him for moving the headquarters for many of his businesses to the state in recent years.
