Chaos is unfolding in Brisbane as the city prepares for Cyclone Alfred, with residents scrambling to prepare for a system expected to make landfall as a Category 2 storm.

As south-east Queensland braces for the dangerous Cyclone Alfred, the Brisbane art precinct including QAGOMA, poised on the edge of the Brisbane River, braces for flooding.

Significant damage and power outages are possible in the densely populated region of Queensland, where tropical cyclones impacts are not uncommon, but direct landfalls are.

In Brisbane, preparations are well underway for the arrival of tropical Cyclone Alfred. The category two system is expected to cross the coast near Brisbane late on Thursday or early Friday.
