Ocean State Job Lot, a discount brand with a strong presence in New England and the Northeast, may snatch up more than a dozen Big Lots leases. The restructuring firm that took control of Big Lots in the wake of its bankruptcy last year appears to be making progress in its effort to transfer some of the discount chain’s ill-fated locations to other retailers.

As Big Lots' bankruptcy process continues, more stores have been added to the list of leases for sale, indicating imminent closures.

Big Lots filed for bankruptcy last year after closing several stores. The Gordon Brothers deal resulted in transferring 200-400 stores to Variety Wholesalers Inc., USA Today reported, with plans to keep the stores operational with the Big Lots brand.

Big Lots has struggled in recent years after being deemed to "mainstream" for its bargain-savvy shoppers, and this chain has stepped in.

Joann has started going-out-of-business sales at some of its stores around the country, including two locations in Vermont. The fabric and craft retail chain announced last week that it would be closing roughly 500 of its more than 800 stores around the country.

The closings are part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Chapter 11 gives companies breathing room to get finances in order without going out of business.
