Newborn syphilis cases at 'dire' levels as analysis shows tenfold increase in last decade: CDC Syphilis has been on the rise in recent years.

Cases increased by nearly 80% to more than 207,000 between 2018 and 2022, according to the CDC. Rates increased among all age groups, including newborns, and in all regions of the country.

"The congenital syphilis crisis in the United States has skyrocketed at a heartbreaking rate," said CDC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Debra Houry in a news release.
