There has been a lot of speculation connecting the Edmonton Oilers to free-agent defenseman John Klingberg over the past few days.  The last time we saw Klingberg in the NHL was in 2023-24 when he was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs and it was not pretty.

Someone in the Leafs organization really wants to believe in a good comeback story. Matt Murray is presently living out his attempt to return to the NHL, with some success at the AHL level that hasn’t translated to NHL success,

The Edmonton Oilers have had a strong 2024-25 campaign and seem poised to make a return to the postseason. They made some strong moves in the offseason to make up for the losses of Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg by bringing in Vasily Podkolzin and Ty Emberson,

John Klingberg is closing in on an NHL return, and the Maple Leafs, Senators and Oilers are all reportedly interested in the veteran D-man.
