Fulton jail overcrowding: Board of Commissioners approves controversial plan
A plan to reduce overcrowding at Fulton County’s Rice Street Jail, approved by the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday morning, has blindsided some Fulton County officials.
In 2025, the county spent $12.8 million to improve security and staffing, update facilities and enhance detainee healthcare, a government spokesperson said.
Fulton County officials offered a progress report on the county’s efforts to address issues at the Rice Street Jail.
The five-point plan passed on a 4-3 vote, with those against saying it is not fully formed nor publicly vetted.
