The National Weather Service in Wilmington warns a blast of arctic air is settling over the region this week, causing extremely cold conditions such as Tuesday morning's wind chills in the negatives. An extreme cold warning is in place for all local counties until 12 p.m. Jan. 27. A cold weather advisory has been issued for the overnight hours.
The extreme cold warning will be in effect through 9 a.m. Tuesday because temperatures are expected to be in the teens or single digits.
