The Boston Red Sox were at the front of the race to get superstar Alex Bregman a little while ago this offseason, but it seems more and more like it won’t happen. Fansided’s Chris Landers proposed three trade targets that could work as substitutes to getting Bregman, and would make sure not all fans lose trust in the Sox’ front office.

The Red Sox continue to be engaged with free-agent infielder Alex Bregman, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. There is a caveat to Boston's interest, however, as the Red Sox would prefer any agreement to be of the short-term variety -- meaning,

A lot of the big names on the free agent market in the MLB this offseason have already been scooped up, but there are still a few true difference-makers out there. One of those star free agents that are still available is former Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman,

Months later, Bregman remains unsigned, and a resolution with his free agency does not appear any closer. Among the teams that have been linked to Bregman in reports include the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers. But the reality is that none of the teams listed are close to signing the All-Star infielder.
