Sony Pictures claims CBS entered into unauthorized licensing deals for the shows which undercut their value then paid themselves commission on them.

The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, also alleges that Sony recently learned that CBS had entered into unauthorized deals in New Zealand and Australia, and had pocketed $3.6 million in fees.

Two former executives on Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune have accused Sony Pictures of engaging in unlawful race, gender, and age discrimination.

Now a legal fight has erupted between the companies behind the game shows. Sony Pictures Television, which makes “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy,” is suing CBS, the distributor, for allegedly undercutting the value of the shows to serve its own interests.

Sony Pictures Television Inc. accused CBS Studios Inc. in a lawsuit of leaving millions of dollars on the table in the network’s distribution of the popular Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune game shows.

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! have aired in syndication and not on one specific network for over 40 years. Sony’s distribution agreements with CBS and the network’s previous distributor go back to the early 1980s.
