Donald Trump Jr. will travel to Greenland this week in a surprise visit to the Arctic territory, just weeks after his father, US President-elect Donald Trump, rekindled the idea of buying the island from Denmark.

Donald Trump Jr. is expected to visit Greenland on Tuesday as his father, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, has again expressed interest in gaining control over the vast Arctic island.

Donald Trump Jr is heading for Greenland, two weeks after his father repeated his desire for the US to take control of the autonomous Danish territory. The US president-elect's son said he was going as a tourist on a "very long, personal, day-trip", to talk to people, and had no meetings planned with government officials.

Donald Trump Jr travelled to Greenland on Monday amid his father’s renewed interest in “ownership” of the island, and days after the leader of the autonomous territory of Denmark issued a push for independence.

Donald Trump confirmed that his eldest son will visit Greenland amid increased calls by the president-elect that the U.S. should control the autonomous territory owned by Denmark.

“I am hearing that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA.’ president-elect Donald Trump posted on his social media site Monday night, referring to his “Make America Great Again” movement. “My son, Don Jr, and various representatives, will be traveling there to visit some of the most magnificent areas and sights.”

The world’s largest island, which sits between the Atlantic and Arctic oceans and is 80% covered by ice, is an autonomous territory that’s part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
