On Sunday night, former St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams announced on his Instagram he is retiring from professional baseball. Adams will be honored on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Busch Stadium.

Matt Adams, former St. Louis Cardinals slugger, will sign a one-day deal to retire with the team and will be honored with a ceremony during Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Matt Adams, who spent seven seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and won a World Series with the Washington Nationals, will be hanging up his cleats for good on Wednesday.

Adams was traded by the Cardinals to the Atlanta Braves in 2017, but returned to St. Louis in 2018 after being put on waivers by the Washington Nationals. Adams returned to Washington the next season where he would help lead the team over the Cardinals in the NLCS and eventually beat the Houston Astros in the World Series.
