Great Adventure announced Thursday, Nov. 14, that its introducing The Flash: Vertical Velocity in 2025. But to make room for the new addition, Kingda Ka and the Green Lantern rides will be taken down. Kingda Ka was ranked as the world’s tallest and fastest coaster, and has been ridden 12 million times since 2005.

A legendary New Jersey roller coaster has taken its final ride to make way for new record-breaking thrill rides over the next couple of years.

The park has not filed at notice with the state that the ride is shutting down, Lisa Ryan, a spokesperson for the state Department of Community Affairs, told NJ Advance Media. Theme parks are not required to submit notice of closure, they would just let the permit lapse if not opening the ride for the next season, she said.
