U.S. federal regulators have ordered the Calgary-based operator of the Keystone Pipeline to take several corrective actions after a rupture caused more than 556,000 litres of oil to spill onto farmland in North Dakota.

An estimated 3,500 barrels of oil spilled in a field near Fort Ransom, N.D., and the release was contained, the pipeline’s operator said.
