According to a news release from the Maui Emergency Management Agency, the brushfire is burning near the old Sugar Cane Train warehouse. Firefighting efforts in the area have caused both lanes of the Honoapiʻilani Highway between Puʻukoliʻi Road and Lower Honoapiʻilani Highway to shut down.

At 12:22 p.m., county officials closed both lanes of the highway — between Puukolii Road and Lower Honoapiilani Highway near the old Sugar Cane warehouse. Motorists are asked to avoid the area to allow helicopters to draw water from the ocean for firefighting operations.
