Webb's ability to see through hazy obstacles is demonstrated here with the Sombrero, aka Messier 104, a nearly edge-on spiral galaxy about 30 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. The galaxy was discovered in 1781 by the French comet hunter Pierre Méchain, one of renowned astronomer Charles Messier’s colleagues.

The James Webb Telescope took the deepest and clearest picture of faraway space. Its first picture shows a group of galaxies called SMACS 0723 The picture that looks like a question mark is a view of a group of galaxies called MACS J0417.5-1154, taken by the James Webb Telescope

The Sombrero galaxy, which is about the size of the Milky Way, is positioned some 30 million light-years away. The Webb telescope has several different instruments, but most of the widely shared images you've seen come from an infrared imager known as NIRCam.
