President Trump received a rousing welcome in Israel and declared the Gaza war over. Hamas released the last 20 living Israeli hostages. Palestinian prisoners were also set to be freed.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has brought cautious calm to the region as aid begins to flow into the Gaza Strip.

Hamas says it will return the bodies of four hostages today, but has told mediators it does not know the location of some of the other 24.

Hamas released the final 20 living hostages it held in Gaza in return for the freeing of nearly 2,000 Palestinians from Israeli prisons, in a landmark exchange that forms a crucial part of US President Donald Trump’s push to end the two-year war in the Palestinian enclave.

Hamas is reasserting control of parts of Gaza not occupied by Israeli forces as the ceasefire takes hold – amid continuing uncertainty about security in the territory if the group is disarmed.

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested Hamas had been given a greenlight for internal security operations it is conducting in the Gaza Strip, saying the group wants "to stop the problems" and "we gave them approval for a period of time".

A t least 27 people have been killed in fierce clashes between Hamas security forces and armed members of the Dughmush family in Gaza City, in one of the most violent internal confrontations since the end of major Israeli operations in the enclave.
