Chennai’s RMC reported that a deep depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal could become a cyclonic storm. Heavy rains have prompted holidays for schools in Tamil Nadu districts and Puducherry on November 27.

According to the latest reports, a holiday has been declared for all government and private schools, government-aided schools, and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal for today, November 27, as confirmed by Puducherry Education Minister Arumugam Namassivayam.

With northeast monsoon season's first cyclone likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, IMD has upgraded its rain alert for Chennai.

Moving north-northwestwards at 12 km/h, the storm system is expected to bypass Sri Lanka’s coast and approach Tamil Nadu within the next two days. However, slightly cooler sea surface temperatures closer to the coastline could weaken the system marginally before landfall.
