AUBURN, Alabama (WKBN) – Boardman High School graduate D.J. Durkin has been named the interim head football coach at Auburn University. Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen made the announcement on Sunday after firing former head coach Hugh Freeze. Freeze led the Tigers to a record of 15-19.
Kentucky continues to bring up the rear at the base of the SEC and is still searching for its first conference win of the year ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Auburn. The Tigers aren’t much better off by comparison, though they at least have the SEC monkey off their back after last week’s win over Arkansas stopped a slide of four straight defeats.
Auburn football’s Auburn football’s 10-3 loss to Kentucky was a hard watch for fans in attendance. The loss showed how the Tigers took several steps back from their improvements against Arkansas last week.
At a time when the money available to spend on a roster is as important as anything, Auburn has improved its investment. It helped the Tigers land Arnold and Singleton in the transfer portal, part of last offseason’s eighth-ranked portal class. The school also opened a $92 million football building in 2022.
