The Arkansas Supreme Court has dismissed former lawyer Oscar Stilley's lawsuit against Secretary of State John Thurston over his decision to reject the abortion amendment.

A majority on the state Supreme Court sided with the secretary of state, who had rejected a citizen group’s petition for failing to submit some of the necessary paperwork.

The issue of abortion rights will not appear on the Arkansas state ballot in November, the state Supreme Court ruled on Thursday, saying that activists pushing for the measure had failed to file necessary paperwork.

The Arkansas Supreme Court upheld the state's rejection of signature petitions for an abortion rights ballot initiative on Thursday, keeping the proposal from going before voters in November. The ruling dashed the hopes of organizers,

"This effort has generated a wave of fiercely engaged Arkansas women," said one organizer. "We are outraged. We will not back down. And we will remember this in November."

In an unusual set of circumstances, the Nebraska Supreme Court will hear arguments in three lawsuits about the two abortion-related ballot initiatives, each of which had successful petition drives for the November ballot.

The attorney preparing to defend the abortion access ballot initiative in front of the Nebraska Supreme Court next week told 6 News on Thursday that the “single-subject argument” doesn’t hold up in this case.
