Monday, Jan. 19 Downtown Phoenix Arizona’s largest MLK Day gathering brings thousands to downtown Phoenix. A march begins at 9 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 1401 E. Some Valley cities are holding events to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday and Wednesday.

Several participants at the Phoenix MLK Jr. march said this march is extra significant in light of recent events in Minneapolis.

Nearly 400 volunteers marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day by distributing meals in "The Zone" and packing boxes at St. Mary’s Food Bank. Groups like Arizona Jews for Justice led the Phoenix-area efforts to provide relief to families facing food insecurity.

An alleged intruder was shot and killed Sunday night after a confrontation with an armed homeowner in a Buckeye neighborhood. Details are extremely limited, but Buckeye police confirmed a man is dead after being shot Sunday night. Police say the driver, identified as 30-year-old Abigael Orozco Robledo, was speeding and impaired before the crash.
