WEBMay 26, 2021 · What I did when it happened was immediately empty the hopper, shut it off, then run the feed cycle to clear the tube out. With all that smoke coming out of the hopper, I suspect the pellets in the auger tube has started to burn. I have other means for searing and have never had an issue running it at 300° or less, so I just don't run it on high.

I tried on a long time ago on my gas grill and it put out some serious smoke, food was much better with chips in foil and then I moved up to a smoker box with chunks, that worked real well once I learned where to put it to get a good slow and clean burn.

At these higher temps, much of the volatile flavoring compounds are destroyed. Pellet grills that have modes that pulse the fans alleviate this somewhat.

Tried soaking some in isopropyl alcohol about 10 minutes and that seemed to give off way to much smoke for a quite a while. Tried vaseline cotton ball.

Most have said the tube produces more (or stronger) smoke, and after my test burn I would agree. And I also think the pellet tray produces more smoke than my sawdust tray.

WEBApr 18, 2020 · Just a heads up to GMG owners who cold smoke. There is a cold smoke mode built into the APP, in the latest grill firmware. It also has adjustable fan speed. Works superb with a tube for Cheese, fish etc. Simply update your grill firmware using the app, takes about 1 minute. Also has temp probe calibration tool. All my temps are to 1 degree.

I then decided to run the smoker on the "FEED" setting to push the remaining pellets and dust out of the auger tube into the burn pot. Only took about 45 seconds of holding the feed button.
